My name is Andrea, and I'm a software engineer.
I didn't start out there, though. Eight years ago, I started my first day at a vet clinic, cleaning kennels and doing dishes and laundry, but very quickly acquired technical skills, and became a valuable lead technican within a few years. In that time, I have found joy in solving complex medical and logistical problems for pets and their owners, perspective from my clients and the paths they've each taken through life, and deep respect for my colleagues as human beings. At the end of 2023, I realized that there were still other mountains I wanted to climb. Reinvigorated by a dream of exploring worlds beyond Earth, I then made the decision to 'boldly go' into software engineering.
I chose App Academy for its rigor, and felt that between the skills I've gained working as a veterinary technician and the time I've devoted to studying and practicing the piano, I would be prepared for learning skills I had no experience with. Indeed, after 16 grueling weeks of 10-12 hour days packed with studying, solo and pair programming followed by more studying and programming, I went from my first 'hello world' to creating full stack, functional, and beautiful applications, and found that I loved the process of building and re-building and solving complex technical problems.
So now, guided by these experiences, I'm searching for a place to thrive that will engage my passion for pragmatic and intuitive builds, continually challenge me to grow, and give me the opportunity to participate in a journey to the worlds beyond ours.
